Baggies continue Belgian interest

EXCLUSIVE
CLUB BRUGGE have confirmed that West Bromwich Albion were in attendance to watch Peter Van der Heyden in the club's midweek victory over Galatasaray last Wednesday.

The newly-promoted outfit have been linked with the sought-after defender for the past few months, and have now even travelled to Belgium to see the 26-year-old in action.

Baggies manager Gary Megson will no-doubt have been impressed with the star, with Brugge trouncing the Turkish champions 3-1 at the Jan Breydel stadium.

However, despite making to trip to Belgium, the midlands outfit have yet to make an official approach for the ace, since their original interest surfaced.

"They have not contacted us again," said club secretary Jacques De Nolf to planetfooball.com. "So far, not yet.

"However, the second transfer window is only in January. I think they might be waiting till then, as they can't make any kind of move now."

De Nolf also reiterated the team's desire to retain all their key players - at least until they are knocked out of Europe's prestigious club competition.

"We still have a good chance of reaching the second group phase of the Champions League. That is also a reason why we are willing to wait.

"But anyway, they haven't spoken to us since Wednesday. They were here watching the game (versus Galatasaray), but that's all.

"I think one can always speculate on the future, but at the moment we're going to wait and see where we finish."
