Parkinson hails Yeates

Phil Parkinson admitted a moment of quality from Mark Yeates ensured Bradford a 2-1 win over Preston.

Yeates fired a curling 86th-minute strike past a diving Jamie Jones to secure Bradford's first league victory in six games. Rory McArdle's header gave Bradford the lead although Preston top scorer Joe Garner thought he had salvaged a point with a close-range 85th minute strike. Parkinson said: "We expected them to throw everything at us in the second half, which they did - they're a very good team with a proud record here at Preston. "We had a few good chances on the break ourselves where we could have extended the lead but we couldn't get that second goal and five minutes to go, they got the equaliser but an absolute moment of pure quality from Yeatesy has won us the game. "We put so much effort into the game, the performance was as good as we've played this season and a draw would have been harsh for us. "When they scored that goal, the crowd lifted. To then break like we did, you need your quality players to produce big moments in games and Mark has done that for us. "I'm really pleased overall - it's a great win for us and we said after Halifax we wanted to build on that and we certainly have." Having not lost at home in the league since December 21 last year, the hosts thought they had protected that run when Garner pounced on Callum Robinson's cutback to finish from close range. But barely 60 seconds later they were behind again through Yeates' cool finish, as their 20-game home record came to an end. Preston boss Simon Grayson - whose side have now suffered three successive league defeats - said: "Obviously we're hugely frustrated that we've lost our good record of being unbeaten here since December at Deepdale. "We lost the game in the first half. The last thing we say to the players is we've got to earn the right to win matches, we've got to compete, we've got to be aggressive. "For the first 45 minutes Bradford dominated all them areas and we had to be better. There's no way we can keep starting poor performances in the first half and then try to come from behind to win it like we had to do in the Fleetwood game and several other games. "When you look at the course of the game, we had enough chances, the keeper made some good saves and we made the real schoolboy error in terms of as soon as we've equalised we go and let them score from probably within a minute of the kick-off."
