No smiles for Grayson after win

Image: Simon Grayson: None too pleased

Simon Grayson was far from happy despite watching his Preston side come from behind to claim a 4-2 win against Colchester at Deepdale.

Rhys Healey put the visitors in front early on and while strikes from Scott Wiseman and Alan Browne soon had the Lillywhites in front they were once again pegged back by Alex Gilbey's 25-yard stunner. After the break Paul Gallagher and Chris Humphrey sealed the win for Grayson's side as they move into the play-off spots in League One. And despite seeing his side maintain their unbeaten home record, Grayson admitted there was still much for his side to improve on. "There were plenty of incidents and goalmouth opportunities and it was probably a bit too open for a manager," he said. "But we've won the game - we got some good goals and we hit the bar a few times. "The bigger picture is that we need to do one or two things better, to prevent the opposition from having the opportunities they did. "We had a good start - Gally should have scored in the first couple of minutes and we went behind but we reacted really well and got a couple of goals. "The lad (Alex Gilbey) hit a great strike from 30 yards but we knew we had to do things better and come out of the traps quickly in the second half. "We did that and got a couple of goals but even then, we didn't kill the game off or defend as well as we could have done. "Jamie Jones had too much to do for us to be safe and comfortable." For Colchester boss Tony Humes it was a case of going back to the drawing board after his defence leaked four goals. "I've just said to the players, it was a case of going back to where we were earlier in the season where we've not defended very well," he said. "There were individual mistakes in there and we didn't close the game out defensively. "We played every so well with the ball and come to Preston and believed in the way we played the game and created a lot of chances. "But unfortunately, we haven't been good enough defensively. "I think three out of the four goals that we conceded were avoidable. "We got ourselves in front and played some good football and created good opportunities. "But we didn't seem to have conviction for a while in what we were doing and conceded two goals but came back into it and got to 2-2 at half ttime. "But we conceded twice in the second half and whether it's concentration or belief, it's something we've got to iron out because however many we score, we can't keep conceding goals like that."
