Grayson calls for technology

Preston boss Simon Grayson is calling for the introduction of goalline technology following their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

The home side took the lead in the 11th minute when Andy Little's cross-cum-shot found the back of the net, only for Jose Baxter to level just before half time. Both sides had chances to win it after the break, with Preston certain Jack King had poked home Neil Kilkenny's corner following Tom Clarke's flick on. However, the officials disagreed and believed Sheffield United goalkeeper Mark Howard had kept the effort out, much to Grayson's disappointment. "Jack is adamant it's gone over the line, we've had a look on the DVD and it looks like it's over the line as well," he said. "But it's difficult for assistant referees to make the decision from there I do believe that goal line technology should be tried and used throughout football now. "So it's hard to take because it would have led to us getting the win and a valuable three points but these things happen and we can't do anything about them now. "There is fine margins in football matches, I thought the supporters who left Deepdale will have felt that they have seen a fantastic game of football. "It was a proper game, there was tackles, chances, opportunities scored and missed but we will probably feel more disappointed that we have not gone away with the three points given the opportunities we had, especially in the second half." After Little's fortuitous opener Sheffield United were lucky themselves when a deflection sent Baxter's shot into Preston's net. Sheffield United also had an effort cleared off the line as Scott Wiseman got back to head clear Michael Higdon's effort with Blades boss Nigel Clough also feeling his side deserved all three points. "It was a brilliant game throughout chances at both ends," Clough said. "I thought, I'm a bit biased, but I thought we just edged it especially in the first half. "The second half was open again, we could have won it but then Mark Howard pops up with a couple of saves to preserve the point for us. "I think for a League One game it had the quality and standard of a Championship game. "The difference was Preston hit the target and made Mark work. We got in similar situations and didn't work the goalkeeper enough which has been one of our failings this season. "I think for the positions we are getting in and the chances we are creating away from home at Preston we should be getting more than one goal. "We lost our first couple of home games but we can see signs of progress, performances have been good so we are pleased with that and we are getting somewhere near."
