Chesterfield have announced the double signing of midfielders Daniel Johnson and Romuald Boco.

Johnson, 21, arrives at the Proact Stadium on a three-month loan from Aston Villa, though the Barclays Premier League side have the option of recalling the player at 24 hours' notice after 28 days. Johnson has made just five professional appearances since coming through the Villa set-up, with all of them coming in a loan spell at Yeovil in 2012. He is yet to play a competitive match for the West Midlands side. Boco, 29, has signed on non-contract terms after his release from Plymouth. The Benin international has over 150 professional appearances in English football with Burton, Plymouth and twice with Accrington. He played two games for Sligo Rovers during a three-year spell in Ireland. Spireites manager Paul Cook told the club's official website: "Johnson is a central midfielder who will compete with Jimmy Ryan and Sam Morsy for a place. He's very good on the ball and we thank Aston Villa for helping us with the loan deal. "I know all about Boco after working with him before and he has been training with us in pre-season. He will be a very useful addition to the squad." Both players will be in contention for Chesterfield's season opener against Leyton Orient on Saturday, as the club make their return to Sky Bet League One.
