Preston have completed the signing of striker Jordan Hugill from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Lilywhites and will link up with his new team-mates when pre-season training begins at the start of July. Hugill would have been out of contract with the Valiants, but as he is under the age of 24 a tribunal would have been needed to set the fee if the two clubs had not agreed on a compensation package. Preston manager Simon Grayson said: "He's not a household name, but what he is, he's going to be competition for the squad. "He's young, he's raring to go, hungry, he's a strong, powerful player, and he's got many attributes that will help us along the way this season and compliment the squad well." Hugill, who scored against Preston on New Year's Day, started his career in non-league football before signing for Vale last year. He was sent on loan to Conference Premier club Gateshead where he scored five goals in seven appearances. Following his return to Vale Park, Hugill made his debut for Vale in a 3-0 win at Crawley and scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 triumph over Shrewsbury a month later. The striker played a key role as Micky Adams' men secured a ninth place finish in League One last season and received the club's 2013/14 young player of the year award for his efforts.
