Colchester United are hoping League One rivals Preston North End will agree to the extension of Jeffrey Monakana's loan.
The promising winger linked up with the U's on an initial one-month agreement in September.
The 19-year-old has made three appearances so far, including a goal-scoring debut in a 2-2 draw with Bradford City.
Colchester boss Joe Dunne has been impressed by what he has seen, despite Monakana being short of full match fitness, and hopes a deal which suits all parties can be reached.
He said in the Daily Gazette: "We'll speak to Preston about the possibility of extending Jeffrey's loan.
"I need to make the call to Simon (Grayson) and speak to him and see where they are.
"Jeffrey's not fully fit and the more games he plays, the more it benefits us and the more it benefits Preston.
"When he goes back there he'll be more ready for their first team, because there's nothing better than playing games."
