Preston manager Simon Grayson insists there will be no repeat of last summer's squad overhaul at Deepdale.
Predecessor Graham Westley oversaw a huge turnover of playing staff last pre-season but the extensive changes failed to bed in and he paid with his job in February.
Grayson is eager to do business early and believes players in the lower leagues need time establish an understanding, ruling out another Westley-style splurge.
"When it comes to changing things around, big rotation of the squad is a luxury which only the top teams in the country have," he told the Lancashire Evening Post.
"Players at the top level settle into things very quickly.
"With no disrespect to players in League One, they need to be playing on a regular basis to get the best out of them. They need to be working as units, understanding what the lad alongside them is going to be doing."
