Mellor stepping up recovery

Preston boss Graham Westley has revealed striker Neil Mellor is set to resume training following a lengthy injury absence.

The former Liverpool forward underwent knee surgery after he suffered ligament damage in December's 1-0 victory at MK Dons. Mellor remains North End's top scorer and the side have floundered in his absence, winning just two of their 14 subsequent matches. "Mells is progressing well and when you can inject his sort of quality into your frontline it is always a welcome boost," Westley told Preston's official website. "He should be back in full training this week. He's out on the grass and has done multi-directional work and he has done a little bit of ball work."
