Brown gratitude for owner

Preston manager Phil Brown has paid tribute to club owner Trevor Hemmings for backing him in the transfer market.

Despite North End plummeting down the League One table on the back of a nine-game winless run, Brown was given the finances to bring Huddersfield defender Jamie McCombe and Barnsley midfielder Nathan Doyle to the club on emergency loan deadline day. Last Tuesday the Lilywhites tasted league victory for the first time since September when they beat Hartlepool at Victoria Park, with Doyle playing a starring role in the 1-0 win. Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I was absolutely delighted with the owner for the help he gave me before the loan deadline day. He granted me a couple of loan signings if I could move one or two out at the same time, and Darel Russell going to Charlton helped things along. "I thought the budget he gave me was tremendous - it was a very competitive budget - and was the reason we were able to get Jamie McCombe and Nathan Doyle in. "The owner wanted to help me put things right and I'm grateful for that assistance. I think we've seen already in the two games they've played what the two lads can do."
