Forte keen to make his mark

Jonathan Forte wants to add some firepower to Preston's depleted forward line and help arrest their slide down League One.

Neil Mellor, Iain Hume and Jamie Proctor are all sidelined, leading boss Phil Brown to bring Forte in on loan from Championship high-flyers Southampton. The 25-year-old made his debut in last Tuesday's penalty shoot-out success at Rochdale in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, but was ineligible as the Lilywhites drew a blank against Burton in the FA Cup at the weekend. "Hopefully I'll score as many goals as I can and help Preston move up the table," Forte said. "A couple of the strikers are out so I'll get the opportunity to play and when they come back hopefully fight for my place as well." The former Scunthorpe forward is hopeful of building a quick understanding with his new team-mates in the coming weeks following his maiden appearance at Spotland. "I don't think the players knew exactly what my game was and I didn't know how they played, but within a game or two we'll all understand," he added. "I play on the shoulder, with a bit of time on the ball I can take someone on and hopefully I can get a couple of goals as well."
