Brown hails North End duo

Phil Brown insists Neil Mellor is the perfect foil for Jamie Proctor after they hit three goals in Preston's 4-3 win over Yeovil.

Proctor, 19, got Preston's first of the match after five minutes on Friday night, before former Liverpool striker Mellor netted twice in the second half to ensure the hosts claimed all three League One points. And afterwards Brown admitted the pair are proving to be the perfect combination. "Neil Mellor could have had the match ball," he said. "He's a likeable character and he puts his body on the line. "People in the past have questioned his commitment but I've never seen that. Jamie Proctor playing alongside is learning a lot and he offered a lot in abundance. I'm delighted for him." Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton believes his team are close to finding a run of form, despite their defeat at Deepdale. Skiverton's men have now not won since August 13, but the Glovers boss remains confident in his team. "People who underestimate us will fall foul because we're not too far away," he said. We couldn't quite get there although we had a one v one in the 90th minute with Kieran Agard getting into some fantastic positions when he came on. "They went a goal up, against the run of play in my opinion as we had one cleared off the line. We didn't take a backward step during the whole game. "It was a little bit too open for my liking but for us to come here, not play particularly well but to show that determination and guts and to keep going for the throat, it was an amazing game."
