Preston boss Phil Brown admits acquiring a left-back is his main priority ahead of the season's opener against Colchester.
North End are without a senior player for the left-back position although Brown has run the rule over Joe Mills, Alex Cooper and Stephen Jordan who have been on trial at Deepdale this summer.
Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post: "This is a big week for us. Our preparation in the next few days for Colchester and beyond is going to be vital, in terms of, can we get players here in time to strengthen our cause before the start of the season?
"Yes, we still have three weeks or so after the Colchester game before the transfer window shuts.
"But it is quite worrying that we haven't got a left back in the squad. I have to sit down with people and see where that takes us."
