Lee Trundle admits it is a relief to have his loan spell at Swansea extended as he looks to end his career with the South Wales outfit.
The striker has been on-loan at the Liberty Stadium from Bristol City, where his contract expires at the close of the current campaign.
Swans boss Paulo Sousa had been tight-lipped as to whether he would prolong the stay of Trundle, who established himself as a cult hero at the club prior to a less successful move to Ashton Gate.
Trundle, who has five goals in just one start and nine substitute appearances since returning to the club, has set his heart of winning a permanent deal at Swansea having now agreed to stay until the end of the season.
"When I came here I had my mind set on extending the loan and now that's happened the next stage is to try to win a contract," he told the
South Wales Echo.
Wrong decision
"I'm going to do everything I can between now and the end of the season to make that happen.
"I want to finish my career with Swansea and if I look after myself, I can go on for a good few years.
"I left Swansea once because I had to for my career, but I realise going away was the wrong decision.
"Swansea are a club I love especially with the relationship I have with the fans and I want to stay.
"The last thing I wanted to do was go back to Bristol City because I wasn't enjoying training and I wasn't enjoying matches and that was killing me."
While Trundle is set for an extended stay at the Championship promotion hopefuls, Radanfah Abu Bakr has been informed he will not be offered a long-term deal.
The Trinidad & Tobago international defender won a short-term contract earlier in the season but has failed to break into Sousa's first team.
"Radanfah's deal finishes at the end of the month and we will not be offering him anything," confirmed Swans chairman Huw Jenkins.
