Transfer-listed striker aims to secure deal in Football League

Crewe Alexandra striker Anthony Elding admits he would be prepared to join local rivals Port Vale as he seeks a move away from Gresty Road. Elding has been placed on the transfer list by manager Dario Gradi after slipping down to sixth spot in the striking pecking order. Gradi revealed earlier in the week that Burton Albion have shown an interest in the 27-year-old, while Vale have also been linked with a bid. "Port Vale have shown interest and they're a club I would think about joining if something was offered to me," Elding told The Sentinel.

Torrid time

"It is obviously a very nice thing to hear that so many clubs are chasing you, although the only firm contact I know Crewe have had is from Burton. "It has been a torrid time for me at Crewe and I have reached the point in my career where I need to move on and to be playing regularly week in, week out." Bradford City, Brentford and Gillingham have also been linked with the former Leeds United front man, who wants to stay in the Football League after Crawley Town and Altrincham were mooted as admirers. He added: "I turned down a move to Luton in the summer, but I haven't had the opportunities I was hoping for. "I feel I'm good enough to play League football and hope to agree a deal with a club in League One or Two."
