Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has joined League Two outfit Swindon Town on a month's loan.
The former England Under-21 goalkeeper is looking for some regular match action after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the majority of last season.
"Andy is fit now and doing everything that we have asked of him but I just feel he needs some first-team football to get his sharpness up to the mark, in case we need him over the Christmas period," North End boss Paul Simpson told the club's official website.
"He has gone there to get a month of football and hopefully he will have a successful month which will do him a lot of good.
"It's not something I am looking to make long term, I want him out there to improve his sharpness and it will also give Chris Neal a bit of a boost being involved in games as well."
It has been almost two years since Lonergan last featured for North End after he suffered two successive cruciate ligament injuries.
He will go straight into The Robins' squad for their home match against Hereford this weekend and will battle for a starting place with Phil Smith.
