Shrews sign keeper

Preston goalkeeper Chris Neal has joined Shrewsbury Town on a one month loan.

Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Neal has joined Shrewsbury Town on a one-month loan deal.

The League Two outfit were pressed into action after seeing Ryan Esson fracture a cheekbone in a reserve outing on Monday.

Former Preston boss Gary Peters opted to raid his old side and has now brought 20-year-old Neal to Gay Meadow.

The keeper found himself behind both Carlo Nash and Andy Lonergan in Paul Simpson's considerations at Deepdale, and will take the opportunity to win some first team football.

Meanwhile, Simpson (pictured) says he will give more time to French trialist Sofiane Zaaboub as he attempts to win a deal with the Championship side.

The defender played in a reserve clash against Carlisle and Simpson says he will be handed another chance to impress against Chester's second string.

"He did ok and we've asked him to stay with us and train with us up until the game against Chester and he'll take part in that as well," said Simpson.

"The change in international registrations for trialists means we're allowed to play them in two games within a month so we can have another look at him and see where we go from there."
