Ghanaian international striker Patrick Agyemang has undergone double hernia surgery.

The 25-year-old Preston man was left out of his country's  squad for the World Cup despite him being involved in several friendly matches before the squad was named.

Preston manager Billy Davies saw the pre-season break as the perfect opportunity for Agyemang to go under the knife so he could be ready for the upcoming Championship season.

"We knew that Patrick needed the operation so it came as no surprise but we felt he should have it sooner rather than later to give him time to recover," Davies told the club's official website.

"The operation went well and we now expect him to be fully recovered and raring to go by the time the players return for pre-season training."
