Notts County have revealed their disappointment at losing starlet Kelvin Wilson.
The 20-year-old sealed a loan move to Preston on Friday with a view to a £300,000 summer transfer.
The Magpies board stated that they were 'bitterly disappointed' that Wilson decided his future lay away from Meadow Lane.
"The board of directors at Notts County Football Club are bitterly disappointed that they have been unable to persuade Kelvin Wilson to remain at Meadow Lane," said a statement from the board on the club's official website.
"As people will be aware, the board have been in negotiations with Kelvin for the past six months with regards to a new contract.
"He was offered a substantial contract to remain with the club for the next few years.
"However, once it became apparent that the board were unable to persuade Kelvin to remain with the club beyond this season, an offer was accepted for his services from Preston North End to take him on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer."
