Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan could be out of action until July, according to manager Billy Davies.

The 22-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in training during a short loan spell at Wycombe last month, and Davies has admitted his man is facing a long wait on the sidelines.

Lonergan, who will undergo reconstructive surgery next week, also missed most of last season with a cruciate problem.

"It's another long road for him," Davies told the club's website. "It is a frustrating time for him because he worked so hard to come back.

"He was in very good condition and we know that everyone in the medical department was very pleased with his progress," he added.

"But due to a one in a million freak incident it's another long road for him.

"This is the start of the long recovery period again. Obviously after that we start to get the work done again to build up his leg and to get him into condition to be ready to play hopefully around July."
