Preston North End have decided to appeal against the red card decisions handed to Danny Dichio and Claude Davis at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Both players were sent off in the space of six second half minutes of the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, with striker Dichio first to go for allegedly raising his arm against Palace's Clinton Morrison.

Referee Steve Tanner then sent off centre back Davis for an early shower six minutes later for a high kick on Dougie Freedman, as The Lilywhites finished the match with nine men.

Preston boss Billy Davies hopes Tanner will use some common sense and rescind both red cards, with the Scot claiming their appeal has the support of Palace counterpart Iain Dowie.

"It is very clear that on both decisions, they didn't deserve to stand," Davies told the club's official website.

"Iain Dowie agreed, he said to me after the game that he didn't think either were sendings off.

"They were very harsh and I really find it difficult to find the words to describe it because it was a big kick in the backside to us.

"Hopefully, common sense comes in and the referee sees he has made two blunders but it is very disappointing and I hope the referee looks at the video and thinks about nothing else."
