Preston eye Hibbert

Port Vale starlet Dave Hibbert has emerged as a possible target for Preston.

Port Vale starlet Dave Hibbert has emerged as a possible transfer target for Preston North End.

The promising 19-year-old striker is thus far stalling on a new contract offer from Vale and could now quit the League One outfit - where he has made only three senior starts.

Preston chairman Derek Shaw admits the club are pursuing a young lower division striker, as they look to emulate the success story of Dave Nugent who has proven so prolific since his move from Bury.

Shaw told the Lancashire Evening Post that they are pursuing ''a youngster from the lower leagues who is not well known, but is a Dave Nugent type - one for the future.''

Although Preston have yet to lodge an offer for Hibbert it is expected that they could mount a bid before the club's other players report for pre-season training.
