Sedgwick's crazy season

Preston winger Chris Sedgwick has been surprised by his turnaround in fortunes.

Preston winger Chris Sedgwick admits he has been surprised by his turnaround in fortunes this season.

Sedgwick started the campaign at Rotherham United and had been preparing himself for a sustained relegation battle.

But he joined The Lilywhites in November and is now closing in on a place in The Premiership next season.

The 25-year-old helped Preston gain a 2-0 lead in the first leg of their play-off against Derby County and Sedgwick concedes it has been a remarkable change in his personal circumstances.

"This season was soul destroying," said Sedgwick of his time at Millmoor. "We were getting beaten in nearly every match and just couldn't win a game.

"So to come here and get involved in a promotion challenge, when all I was thinking about before was a relegation scrap, was brilliant.

"It's been a crazy turnaround for me."

Preston take their play-off advantage to Pride Park on Thursday evening, live on Sky Sports 1, but Sedgwick is refusing to take a place in the final for granted.

He added: "We know there are plenty of twists and turns yet."
