JAMAICAN international striker Ricardo Fuller was the hero for Preston netting two goals in their 3-1 win over local rivals Burnley at Deepdale.

The former Hearts hit-man was on the score-sheet as early as the fourth minute, when American international Eddie Lewis crossed for Fuller to rifle his shot into the top corner.

North End continued the create the better of the chances and could have doubled their advantage when Lewis, again the instigator, fed Richie Creswell, however the striker fired just wide of Marlon Beresford's post.

Burnley almost entered the half-time interval on level terms when Ian Moore headed just wide after Robbie Blake did well to create some space in the box.

The second half finished just the same of the first with both sides going for goals. Cresswell was inches from scoring after the impressive Lewis crossed into the box, following good work from Fuller.

The home side were made to pay for their missed chances with Burnley equalised. Following a quickly-taken free kick, Gareth Taylor found space in the box and headed home past David Lucas on 50 minutes.

Burnley, buoyed on by their equaliser, commanded the next period of play, however the home side re-took the lead with a goal against the run of play.

Fuller broke down the right and cleverly crossed for Paul McKenna, who could not miss from close range. Preston had the points wrapped-up moments later when Fuller scored again.

The Caribbean forward the most of time and space after being cleverly found by Lewis. He cut in on his right foot in the box and fired an unstoppable shot past Beresford into the top corner.

The result leaves Preston with a priceless win, as the three points helps push the side away from the relegation drop zone.
