Sky Sports understands that Derby County have agreed a fee with Northampton Town for their star midfielder Michael Jacobs.
The 20-year-old is out-of-contract at Sixfields and has turned down the chance of extending his stay with the League Two club.
A host of teams, including Premier League Newcastle United, had shown an interest but Derby were always leading the chase.
Now Sky Sports can reveal that Derby have agreed terms with Northampton, thus avoiding the need for a transfer tribunal.
The player has already held talks with Derby but is now expected to finalise the details and have a medical this week.
