Sky Sports understands Watford's football business director Ross Wilson has rejected a switch to Championship rivals Derby.
Derby had lined up a move for the highly-rated Wilson as they looked to appoint a new director of football at Pride Park.
However, Rams boss Nigel Clough was thought to be unhappy and adverse to the appointment of a director of football to work alongside him.
With the appointment of director of football possibly causing conflict with Clough, Wilson has opted to stay at Watford.
The 28-year-old, who joined from Falkirk last summer, has made a big impact at Vicarage Road since his arrival and he is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Watford.
Wilson is understood to be happy to stay at Watford and continue the impressive work he has already carried out at Vicarage Road.
