Clough denies Rams row

A report on Sunday claimed manager Clough could step down if the Rams proceeded with plans to create the position, with Watford's head of football business Ross Wilson tipped as a possible candidate for the role.

However, the 45-year-old boss insists the situation has been exaggerated.

"I am not sure where that story has come from," Clough told the Derby Telegraph.

"I don't think me and Tom (Glick) have ever been on a collision course.

"We have worked together now for the past three and a bit years, and certainly two and a half years since he took on the football role after Adam Pearson left in October 2009, and we have hardly had a cross word in that time.

"To talk about a collision course when we have so much respect for Tom, and everybody at Moor Farm has so much respect for him, is over-dramatising it somewhat.

"We will sit down and talk about things, as we always do."

Clough says he is keen to find a solution to ease Glick's workload, which has increased following the departure of chairman Pearson.

"Since Adam Pearson left, Tom has been running the football side and the business side - how he fits it all into one day, honestly I have no idea," added the manager.

"He works all hours and it is just too much for one person.

Solution

"So we are talking about ways we can improve that, maybe to get somebody to come and help us with the agents and the deals, and things like that.

"We are talking about it and trying to find the best solution."

Questioned on his opinion on the director of football role, Clough said: "It hasn't worked out at some clubs.

"That is why we are taking our time discussing all the options to find something that would work for everybody within our club, something that can help us be successful in the future."
