MK Dons completed the signing of Newcastle defender James Tavernier on transfer deadline day.
Tavernier, a right-back by trade but capable of playing at centre-half, moved to stadium:mk on loan for the remainder of the season just 48 hours after Toon team-mate Alan Smith. The recall of Adam Smith by Tottenham forced Dons boss Karl Robinson into a late signing on Tuesday night. Tavernier has good experience of League One having enjoyed successful loan spells at Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday this season. Originally a trainee at Leeds, Tavernier switched to Newcastle and signed a two-year scholarship before putting pen to paper on his first professional contract in August 2009. The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for the Magpies that season, featuring in the Carling Cup against Peterborough.
