Swans, Rams and Black Cats all win in midweek

Swansea saw off Celtic on Wednesday, as Derby put a dent in Aston Villa's pre-season preparations. Elsewhere, Norwich were held at a rain-drenched Carrow Road and a Sunderland XI eased to a comfortable win. Swansea welcomed SPL giants Celtic to the Liberty Stadium and were able to pick up a morale-boosting 2-0 victory. Following a goalless first half, Angel Rangel put the hosts in front on 64 minutes. Stephen Dobbie then wrapped things up six minutes from time to hand Brendan Rodgers' side an impressive success. Aston Villa failed to match the achievements of their Premier League rivals as they went down 2-0 away at Derby. Steve Davies kept his composure from the penalty spot to fire the Rams in front 12 minutes into the second half. Ben Davies then grabbed the second goal of the game on 77 minutes to put a smile on Nigel Clough's face. Norwich and Real Zaragoza could not be separated at the end of a disrupted night at Carrow Road. Ritchie de Laet gave the Canaries an early lead as he pounced on 15 minutes. Braulio levelled matters for the visitors moments before the interval and that was the way it stayed, with a delay midway through the second half following a loss of power doing neither side any favours. Finally, a Sunderland XI eased past local rivals Darlington 3-0 as Steve Bruce stepped up his plans for the new season. Goals from Jordan Cook, Craig Gardner and Ji Dong-won did the damage for the top flight outfit.
