Albion decide against punishing Austrian stopper

West Brom will not take action against defender Paul Scharner over his public outburst regarding the club's dressing-room discipline. Scharner blasted the Baggies players for becoming "lazy" after the club's internal fines system was abolished. Acting captain Chris Brunt has already expressed his "disappointment" regarding Scharner's remarks, which the stopper made to the press ahead of Saturday's Premier League home encounter with Blackpool. But Baggies manager Roberto Di Matteo says the 30-year-old Austrian will not be disciplined by the club.

No issue

He said: "We haven't got an issue and, if there is anything to deal with, we'll deal with it internally but there's no great issue. "It (Scharner's comments) was a reference to something in particular which is not a great deal. "I like players with opinions but you need to choose when to do it publicly and when to do it internally. "Will there be any action against Scharner? No." Meanwhile, Brunt does not feel taking the skipper's armband from close friend and dropped goalkeeper Scott Carson will cause any bad feeling between the pair. Carson, who has endured a recent poor run of form, was axed from Di Matteo's line-up in favour of former Hull shot-stopper Boaz Myhill in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Seasiders, with Brunt named as captain.
Circumstances
Brunt said: "The circumstances aren't great with the way things have panned out but that's football. "But if Scott isn't playing, he can't be captain so there will be no hard feelings between me and him. "We are good friends, he is my room-mate, I have played with him a long time so I don't think it will be an issue. "It's the manager's decision and everyone has to respect that."
