Baggies skipper confident results will come

Scott Carson feels West Brom need to become more ruthless if they are to return to winning ways. The Baggies have suffered back-to-back defeats against Aston Villa and Bolton but feel they were deserving of more in both encounters. Part of the problem at the moment is that the forwards are spurning gilt-edged chances and the defenders are allowing their concentration to slip at vital times. That is not a good combination to have, with a lack of goals and a leaky defence only ever going to produce one result. Club captain Carson is confident performances will soon improve, though, with enough spirit shown in the club's last two fixtures to suggest a reversal in fortune is not far away. He does, however, feel that the Baggies need to discover a mean streak if they are to build on a positive first half to the 2010/11 campaign.

Clinical

"We said after the Villa game that if we played like that again we would win, and yet it's happened again," Carson told the club's official website after a 2-0 defeat to Bolton on Boxing Day. "But we're not in there cutting each other's throats. We've still got confidence and if we carry on playing like this I'm sure we will pick up a few more points. "We've got to be a bit more clinical in both boxes and a bit of luck wouldn't go amiss either. "The ball just doesn't seem to be landing for us and it landed for them twice in the six-yard box. "When that happens there isn't a lot you can do. The lads aren't letting their heads drop. We're still pretty confident that we can win a lot of games. "The last two games haven't gone our way results-wise but performance-wise we have been there and it's just about trying to cut out the little mistakes and being a bit more clinical at both ends."
