Millwall defender Zak Whitbread has been placed on the transfer list after rejecting contract talks.

Defender rejects new contract discussions at The Den

Millwall have announced that Zak Whitbread has been placed on the transfer list after he rejected the opportunity for contract talks. The former Liverpool defender has 12 months remaining on his current terms at The Den but does not appear to want to prolong his stay after the defeat in the League One play-off final last season. Whitbread, who moved to London on a permanent basis in 2006 after an initial loan period, has been linked with Everton and Blackburn in the past while a number of Championship clubs have also been credited with an interest. Millwall are therefore keen to avoid losing the 25-year-old for nothing next summer when his contract expires and have put the centre-back up for sale. The club's managing director Andy Ambler said: "Zak has one year left on his current contract but has turned down our offer to discuss a new deal. "As a result of that, Zak has been placed on the transfer list."
