Derby County's injury list is set to grow with the news that midfielder David Jones requires a hernia operation.

Jones has five Premier League appearances for The Rams, but has been troubled by a niggling groin injury since late November.

Paul Jewell has hoped a period of rest would aid the recovery, although the 23-year-old is now booked in for surgery after it flared up in training.

"We have tried to nurse him through the injury but it flared up again in training and he will have an operation," he told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

The news of Jones' absence is yet another blow to the new Rams tactician, who has just 17 fit players for Wednesday's clash with Bolton at The Reebok.
