Winger requires surgery on Achilles

Reading winger Glen Little is out for up to six months after learning he requires an Achilles operation. Little has not played for Reading since April, with the club having been trying to get to the bottom of his injury troubles. Following a visit to a specialist, surgery is now necessary, with Little due to go under the knife in Sweden on Wednesday. "Glen and I recently saw a specialist in Achilles management," Royals physio Jon Fearn told the club's official website. "He thinks that what we may have is a small tear in the tendon that has not responded to the treatment we have given him.

Long recovery

"That can happen in some cases, so the next stage is to go into the tendon and cut out the damaged tissue. "Then we have to wait for the tendon to heal. Tendon takes twice as long as muscle, so we're looking at probably four to six months recovery time." Meanwhile, recent signing Kalifa Cisse is out for up to six weeks as the midfielder requires a knee operation. Fearn added: "Cisse is still having some trouble with cartilage in the knee and he will have surgery on Friday. "It's normally four to six weeks."
