Striker has yet to open his Premier League scoring account this season

Derby County boss Billy Davies has insisted that he will not drop the goal-shy Steve Howard. The Rams striker has started all six of Derby's Premier league fixtures this season, but has yet to hit the back of the net. Furthermore, Howard was guilty of squandering several decent opportunities during the 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. But Davies has backed his centre-forward, and explained that he will be presented with further opportunities to open his account in the coming weeks.

Pivotal

"He has got to put them behind him. He was unfortunate (against Newcastle) because he could have scored two or three," Davies told the Evening Telegraph. Howard was pivotal in Derby's push for promotion last season, scoring 19 goals, and Davies has not forgotten the important part he played in getting them into the top flight. "Stevie has got us here, and we have to remember that, and there will be plenty of other opportunities for him in the next few weeks to go and get a goal or two," he added.
