Carlisle have raided Derby to sign Paul Thirlwell on loan.
The former Sunderland man has agreed a three-month loan deal at Brunton Park.
Thirlwell is well down the pecking order at Derby and has not figured in Billy Davies' side this term.
Carlisle boss Neil McDonald was delighted to bring in the 27-year-old midfielder.
"This is a player who has played at a decent level for a number of years and he will be an excellent addition to our squad," McDonald told the club's official website.
"We are looking forward to working with him and we're sure that this will be a good move, both for him and for Carlisle United."
