Billy Davies says he still hopes to bring in a striker before Saturday's game with Burnley.

The Preston North End boss has reportedly been considering a move for Southampton striker Brett Ormerod, while he has also admitted to an interest in Derby's Paul Peschisolido.

But he will have to move quickly if he is to tie up a deal prior to Friday's 12 o'clock deadline, and he could well be forced to wait another week before he is able to boost his club's firepower.

"We know that with regards to many other clubs in the division we have got certain resources and financial restraints that we have got to deal with, but at the same time we'll try our best and work as hard as we can," he told Sky Sports News.

"The dream is for every club to one day push yourselves into the Premier League and try and compete as best as you can.

"The fans expectation at every club is always very much on the high side and we've got to try and keep our good run going and continue to look no further than the next match and try and get something from that game."

Preston have already completed two successful transfer swoops this January, however, and both of them say they they are settling in well at Deepdale.

Simon Whaley joined from Bury in a £250,000 deal and he says that he has had no problems at all in adjusting to life in The Championship.

"I've settled in brilliant in my first week," he beamed. "I'm coming into the second week now and it feels like I've been here quite a while - it's brilliant!"

Brian Stock made a longer journey from Dorset to Lancashire after he completed a £100,000 move from Bournemouth seven days ago. He says he is delighted to be in the North West.

"They've got lots of ambition and it's a setup for me to play on a bigger stage," he explained. "I've heard a lot of good things about Preston and they're obviously going well and looking to get into The Premiership."

Meanwhile, Davies has also revealed that neither Walsall nor MK Dons are any closer to signing North End midfielder Eric Skora.

"Nothing has been mentioned by Walsall," he affirmed. "As for MK Dons, there has been no official offer. They just made an enquiry.

"There is obviously an interest there. But it has only been a verbal communication, nothing official."
