Youngsters Giles Barnes and Lionel Ainsworth have penned professional contracts with Derby County.

Midfielder Barnes, who turns 17 on Friday, has signed a three-year deal with The Rams, while Ainsworth has penned a two-year contract.

Barnes could not contain his excitement at joining the professional ranks at Derby and is now looking forward to the start of the new campaign.

"This is the best day of my life so far," explained Barnes to the club's official website. "I'm very, very proud to have signed for Derby County."

Ainsworth, the club's academy young player of the year, is currently on the sidelines with a shoulder injury and was delighted to commit his future to Phil Brown's side.

"I'm really proud because this is something I've wanted, and worked hard for, for a very long time," explained Ainsworth.

"I had a really good season last time out and though it's frustrating to be injured I'm going to get my head down and concentrate on my rehabilitation."
