DANNY HIGGINBOTHAM will undergo a hernia operation now that the Premiership season has drawn to a close.
The Derby County defender should be fit in time for the start of the 2001/2002 campaign, but he requires surgery in a bid to cure the problem, and is booked to go under the knife on Thursday.
Although the former Manchester United man struggled intially when joining The Rams, he was switched to the centre of defence in an inspired move from wily boss Jim Smith.
Higginbotham turned in some sterling displays towards the end of the season, as County retained their top-flight status, and is expected to be a key part of Smith's plans once again next year.
