Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has been charged with improper conduct over his touchline confrontation with Hull counterpart Steve Bruce.
Bruce has not been charged for the incident which occured during Tuesday's 1-1 draw, but the Football Association has written to the Hull boss to remind him of his responsibilities.
The pair had to be kept apart in a fiery argument on the touchlines at the KC Stadium after Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell went down in the box and was booked for simulation.
The Uruguayan coach, unhappy with not being awarded a penalty, kicked over a crate of drinks before approaching Bruce, who had to be restrained by a linesman and members of his coaching staff after the pair exchanged heated words.
Poyet was sent to the stands for the incident and has until 6pm on March 9 to respond to the charge which it is understood relates to kicking the water bottles rather than the confrontation with Bruce, which both men played down after the game.
An FA statement read: "Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been charged by the FA following the game against Hull City on 3 March 2015.
"It is alleged that his behaviour in the 35th minute of the fixture amounted to improper conduct. He has until 6pm on 9 March 2015 to respond to the charge.
"Meanwhile, Hull manager Steve Bruce has been contacted by the FA in relation to the same incident and formally reminded of his responsibilities."
