Sunderland manager Gus Poyet says he has no regrets over his touchline clash with Steve Bruce during the 1-1 draw against Hull.
The managers were involved in an altercation in the 35th minute of the match and had to be separated by a referee's assistant.
It started when Poyet kicked a water bottle in frustration at Jack Rodwell being booked for diving and was sent to the stands by referee Mike Dean.
On his way out of the dugout, Poyet tried to shake hands with Bruce, who reacted angrily and had to be restrained by the assistant.
“I think it is better to kick a bucket than say something you would regret after, so I have no regrets,” Poyet told Sky Sports. “If it’s a bad image for football I am really sorry but I don’t think it is something we should worry about.”
Asked what was said between himself and Bruce, Poyet answered: “I am old fashioned, what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.”
Dame N’Doye gave Hull the lead at the KC Stadium but Rodwell equalised for Sunderland in the 77th minute to rescue a draw.
“We need to take the point because it was difficult,” said Poyet. “We need to be pleased because the team gave everything they can give.
“One point in the Premier League is expensive and hard to get. I am sure it will be (tense) every single game, especially the next one against Aston Villa.”
