Sebastian Larsson admits Sunderland must get to the bottom of why they lack consistency in the Premier League.

Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat against QPR halted a four-match unbeaten run, raising the prospect of a battle for Premier League survival with Sunderland now just two points clear of the relegation zone.

After the game, manager Gus Poyet insisted something fundamental had to change if they are going to shed their one step forward, two steps back approach, and Larsson concurs with his Uruguayan manager.

“You can never take anything for granted in this game and we've experienced that many times before,” said midfielder Larsson.

"I think the most frustrating thing is we felt like we were on the up, we felt like we were moving in the right direction.

"It's a game we shouldn't have lost, but we did, so we can only blame ourselves. It was down to us players on the pitch and we didn't do enough.

"I've been here long enough to know that we tend to do these things at times, and we need to figure out why because it shouldn't keep happening."

Sunderland’s next game sees Poyet’s side visit Valley Parade to take on Bradford in the FA Cup Fifth Round.
