Sunderland have signed experienced full-back Anthony Reveillere on a short-term deal.

The 34-year-old - a France international with 20 caps to his name - was a free agent after leaving Napoli over the summer and will stay on Wearside until the end of the season.

Reveillere began his career with Rennes and went on to win five Ligue 1 titles during 10 years at Lyon before spending a season in Italy.

Sunderland have signed Anthony Reveillere on a deal until the end of the season and Gus Poyet is pleased to call on the former France international

He will provide competition for summer signing Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini, who was brought in as a centre-half but has spent most of this season at right-back.

"We needed someone," Poyet told Sky Sports News HQ.

"We couldn't find anyone in the Under-21s that was good enough, so we looked at Anthony (Reveillere).

"He is an experienced player and has played at the highest level.

"We checked on his fitness levels, and he was okay, but adapting to the pace of the Premier League will take time."

Sunderland host Arsenal on Saturday on the back of last week's 8-0 defeat at Southampton, and Reveillere could be available if he receives international clearance.
