Argentine midfielder Ricky Alvarez is keen to take his chance in the Premier League after moving to Sunderland on deadline day.

Alvarez joined the Black Cats from Inter Milan on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal following three years in Italy.

The 26-year-old featured as a late substitute in Argentina’s 4-2 friendly win over Germany, but has since linked up with his new team-mates and could make his debut against Tottenham this weekend.

"I’m going to be training this week with the side and getting to know them. And if the manager decides, then yes, I’m ready," he told the Sunderland Echo.

The Premier League really is the best league in the world, so the idea of coming over here was one I really liked.

"I’m very keen to get underway. It’s a new challenge for me. I’m very happy and very hopeful.

"The Premier League really is the best league in the world, so the idea of coming over here was one I really liked.

"Now I’ve got the opportunity to do it, I look forward to working hard and doing things in the right way."

Asked about his style of play, Alvarez said: "I’m an attacking player who tries to create opportunities and create problems for the opposition.

"I’m also a player who tries to help defensively when the team hasn’t got the ball.

"Nowadays it’s important that players are able to do both of these things."
