Sunderland have signed Argentine defender Santiago Vergini on loan until the end of the season.
Vergini, 25, was on loan at Argentine Primera club Estudiantes from his Uruguayan parent club Atletico Fenix but Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has swooped to make him his second signing of the January transfer window.
Vergini, who will wear the No 27 shirt at the Stadium of Light, follows left-back Marcos Alonso into the club.
Vergini started his career with Paraguayan club Olimpia. In 2011 he made his first move to Europe, joining Serie A side Verona.
After a spell with Newell's Old Boys back in Argentina, and winning his first - and so far only - international cap in 2012, Vergini joined Estudiantes in 2013.
