Striker stays on target after arrival on Wearside

Martin O'Neill has hailed Steven Fletcher after the striker's flying start to his Sunderland career. The Scot has scored three goals in his two Premier League appearances following his protracted move from Wolves, which went through for £12million after the Molineux club had rejected a series of bids from the Black Cats. Fletcher's third goal for his new club saw Sunderland go ahead at home to Liverpool, but the Wearside faithful had to settle for a point after Luis Suarez's equalizer.

Terrific

O'Neill's pursuit of the striker has paid instant dividends and the Sunderland boss feels he has made a value-for-money capture. "So far, he has been absolutely terrific, I am just delighted with him. I just couldn't be more pleased," O'Neill said. "All sorts of figures seem to be bandied around - I heard we paid £14million for him - it was £12million, but he seems to be worth every single penny of it. "I am just pleased for him. It's nice for the crowd to take to him at this minute - that will give him a boost of confidence as much as anything else, but goals, of course, are very pleasing."
