Goalkeeper formalises switch to City

Costel Pantilimon's transfer to Manchester City from Poli Timisoara has been finalised after he was granted a work permit. City announced last week that the Romanian goalkeeper had become the club's fourth summer signing and the necessary paperwork has now been received. Pantilimon played twice against City for Timisoara last season in the Europa League and is likely to be in Roberto Mancini's squad for the Premier League opener against newly-promoted Swansea on Monday. He arrives as back-up to Joe Hart on an initial one-year loan deal with a view to a permanent move next summer. An initial fee of £300,000 has been agreed with City required to pay a further £2.7million at the end of the season to fully acquire his services. City also have the option to keep Pantilimon on loan for a second year, with the buyout clause then rising to £3.4million. Timisoara have also asked Pantilimon to extend his contract with them until June 2016 to protect themselves in the deal.
