Steve Bruce hailed his injury-hit Sunderland side as they conjured up a dramatic late victory against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
Substitute Sulley Muntari steered Sunderland to only their second win in 12 Premier League games with a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
Stand-in skipper Bolo Zenden had put Sunderland ahead, only for substitute Ivan Klasnic to equalise three minutes from time.
But the visitors were not to be denied thanks to the winning goal deep into the four allocated minutes of stoppage-time.
Frustrating
Bruce told
Sky Sports: "We've come out and from the first minutes, had a right good go at Bolton and we had a little bit of luck. We did particularly well.
"Even today, without 10 players and managing to win away from home, it's a fantastic result for us.
"For all of us, it's been a tough few weeks, few months. It's been a frustrating few months for what has happened to us, but we're back on course.
"We won a couple of games when we needed to and it's just the frustration of what has gone on before."
With Sunderland now mathematically safe from relegation, Bruce is looking forward to keeping the rebuilding process going at the Stadium of Light.
He added: "I think that's five years at the club now. We've stopped that yo yo. We must keep building and we want the owner's dream, which is a top-10 team, that's what we're trying to achieve."
