Burnley insist they have no plans to part with full-back

Burnley have been quick to deny claims that they have discussed the possible sale of Tyrone Mears. Reports on Sunday claimed the Clarets had held discussions with Premier League rivals Sunderland regarding the full-back's future. The Black Cats are known to be in the market for a right-back, with Aston Villa's Habib Beye also strongly linked with a move to the North East. Steve Bruce was also thought to be tracking former Derby and Marseille ace Mears, with initial contact having already been made. Burnley, though, insist that is not the case and have moved to curb any speculation which suggests otherwise. "Burnley Football Club can confirm that contrary to media reports, the club is not in talks with Sunderland over the potential transfer of full-back Tyrone Mears," read a statement on the club's official website.
