Italian defender keen to rebuild his career back in his homeland

Andrea Dossena is keen to forget about his disappointing spell at Liverpool and focus on life at Napoli. The Italian defender was officially unveiled as the Serie A club's latest signing on Monday, bringing to an end a forgettable 18-month stint at Anfield. Dossena is delighted to be back in his homeland, having struggled to settle in England, and hopes he can reignite his World Cup ambitions in Naples. He insists he will take plenty of positives from his time spent with Liverpool, but admits he is now looking to bring that chapter of his career to an end. "My adventure in England did not go as I expected, but I learnt a lot," said Dossena. "Napoli is not about me getting revenge, it is an exciting new adventure. I don't want to talk about my experience in Liverpool, it is in the past. I am only thinking about Napoli. "I know I will do well here, even if coach (Walter) Mazzarri cannot guarantee me a starting spot."

Crucial

Dossena joins Napoli with the club sat fourth in the Serie A standings and believes they are capable of securing UEFA Champions League qualification this term. "We're only in January and the championship is very long, so we will see," he said. "We will try and stay in this position until April and then the final matches will be crucial. We will do our best right up until the end of the season." The versatile 28-year-old has also revealed that he is hoping to catch the eye of national coach Marcello Lippi, with the 2010 World Cup still very much on his mind. "I would love to go to South Africa, but I must give my best for Napoli first," he said. "I hope I will realise my dream, but if not I will be a fan of Lippi's team on television."
